So, now we're killing loud idealists, a predictable outcome of the Right's years-long drum beating over the woes of illegal immigration. They aren't just being killed - they are being recklessly killed if not murdered outright in skirmishes over quite literally - nothing.
Getting rid of illegals with such urgency was never important. The entire concept (of urgency) is purely a conservative/Trump campaign tagline. Five years after Trump and the clown team are gone, nobody is going to be talking about illegal immigration any more than they did for the first 200 plus years of the USA, outside little upticks here and there. These federal agents who pulled triggers and killed in the name of all this nonsense, even if they were "procedurally correct" - which is obviously debatable - are going to wake up one day with blood on their souls realizing it was all for nothing important. Feel for those officers as their mental and emotional fates are well in doom.
That doesn't mean illegal immigrants drawing on American resources isn't a problem or allowing anyone who beats the laws of the border should be allowed to live normally and comfortably without fear of consequence, is somehow "fine". Just that it was never exceptionally an issue while at the same time a tried-and-true tactic of scapegoating and distraction. If you view yourself as a political intellectual and fall for this, you should be ashamed.
As a matter of absolute certainty illegal immigration needs to be combat but with better and more uniform enforcement tactics that are quieter and in line with American values. Or, even if you disagree with a smarter more thoughtful approach, at least a loud theatrical one that meets the standard of Trumpism consisting of professional and well trained officers.
What other of Trump's own agenda items will he botch the execution of in the remaining years?
Up until now I have been content to take the position that Democracy has spoken, to the extent that that actually exists here, so, shut up, promote the virtue of any alternative, and try harder next election. Trump won, deal with it, and let's get on. At least we have clarity, right?
Well - I'm not abandoning that position. But let me say this, they may be in charge and we do have to live with that, but that doesn't mean we have to respect them. Especially that god-awful Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem who has the audacity to comfortably tell the world that Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti, people daily and in principle doing more with their lives than she has the capacity for with her salon ding-dong eyelashes and confidence of ignorance, were terrorists. Talk about a glorified "TikTok influencer" who somehow "got lucky" with a title. I'd be curious about the real story behind that.
Normally when you go so far in life as to become part of the national Presidential team, that's something you can move forward with and be proud of. Partisan opinion notwithstanding, people get that you must be exceptional.
Not with Trump's though. Not the Clown Team. Anyone Trump has lined up will be regarded as jokes by default even with their current gigs on the resume.
You do NOT need to respect them.
